Immediately before the gates of the city of Puno is Lake Titicaca, one of the largest tourist magnets in Peru. The main attraction on the lake are the floating islands of the Urus who live there. Just as their fathers did centuries ago, their descendants are still piling up the islands from reed, laboriously by hand. But the culture of the indigenous population is now more threatened than ever.
