As the contagion curve for coronavirus falls, more destinations are reopened. Follow with us the gradual reopening of activities and see where it will be worth traveling after your quarantine.

Teatro Amazonas: open to visitors

Manaus: what’s open

  • Manaus has shops and restaurants in operation, and the main tourist attractions open, such as the Teatro Amazonas, the Seringal Vila Paraíso Museum and the rituals in indigenous villages.
  • A decree of September 24 closed beaches, floating (river bars), bars that do not serve food and nightclubs for a month, to contain agglomerations.
  • Jungle hotels and cruises have also reopened, but the Iberostar Grand Amazon boat only foresees new departures for January.

Novo Airão: what’s open

  • Novo Airão is the city that supports tourism in the Rio Negro and the Anavilhanas archipelago.

Chapada Diamantina: what’s open

  • The city of Lençóis, the main destination of Chapada Diamantina, announced the reopening of the municipality to tourism on October 1st.
  • Visitors will be required to have a negative covid test (PCR or rapid test) done up to 72 hours before arrival, or, for those who have had the disease, a positive covid serology test done up to 3 months before arrival.
  • Only municipal attractions, such as Parque da Muritiba, Cachoeira do Mosquito, Serra das Paridas Archaeological Complex and Balneário Mucugezinho can work.
  • Gruta da Pratinha, in Ibiraquara, reopened on 9 September.
  • The city of Mucugê also reopened on 9 September.
  • Capão Valley, Morro do Pai Inácio, Andaraí, Igatu and Ibicoara remain closed to tourism.
  • There is still no forecast for the reopening of the Chapada Diamantina National Park.

Ilhéus: what’s open

  • On August 11, Ilhéus allowed the reopening of restaurants and beach huts.

  • Itacaré reopened on August 14.
  • Visitors only enter the city with a confirmed accommodation reservation.

  • Pituba shops can operate from 1 pm to 10 pm.

Maraú Peninsula (Barra Grande): what’s open

  • The Maraú Peninsula reopened to tourism on September 1st. In the first 30 days, it will be necessary to show a negative test (PCR or serology) for coronavirus done no more than 72 hours ago. The decree regulating the requirement was published on August 21 (see on here).

Porto Seguro & region: what’s open

  • Includes: Arraial d’Ajuda, Caraíva, Praia do Espelho, Santa Cruz Cabrália, Santo André, Trancoso
  • The municipality of Porto Seguro reopened its beaches on August 5.
  • The only district that remained closed, Caraíva reopened September 1. Some inns and restaurants, however, should open only in October.
  • Restaurants with the Porto Mais Seguro seal can operate until 10 pm.
  • The neighboring municipality of Santa Cruz Cabrália had been reopened to tourism since July 15th and promotes the 5th Costa do Descobrimento Lobster Festival from 9 to 18 October.

Praia do Forte, Imbassaí and Costa do Sauípe: what’s open

  • In Praia do Forte, shops, restaurants (until 8:30 pm), beaches (without tents or agglomerations) and the Tamar Project (with 10% of capacity) reopened on August 3.
  • The complex of Costa do Sauípe already reopened, with new protocols. Meals are à la carte, by appointment. The pool snacks are packed in individual portions. The all-inclusive service continues.

Salvador: what’s open

  • Salvador has restaurants, bars and shopping malls in operation.
  • The beaches began to be gradually opened on September 21st. At first, it is allowed to remain in the sand from 2nd to 6th. Chairs, umbrellas, food and drink sales are prohibited.
  • Itapuã, Amaralina, Tubarão, Ribeira and São Tomé de Paripe also close on the 2nd (they are released from 3rd to 6th).
  • Porto da Barra, Buracão and Paciência remain closed in this first phase of reopening the beaches. (But the Farol da Barra beach is reopened.)
  • Casa do Rio Vermelho announced its reopening on September 29.

Vitória, Vila Velha and Guarapari: what’s open

  • Vitória, Vila Velha and Guarapari are in the ‘low risk’ phase of the state government.
  • Restaurants and bars can operate without time restrictions.
  • The beaches are also cleared.
  • Cinemas, theaters and fairs are open again on October 5th.
  • Among the attractions, Convento da Penha is reopened daily, with limited hours. The Galpão das Paneleiras in Vitória is open from Monday to Friday. Other popular attractions, however, such as the Vale Museum in Vitória and the visit to the Garoto Factory in Vila Velha, remain closed.

Curitiba: what’s open

  • September 27 Curitiba returned to the yellow flag.
  • Shops, restaurants and bars can operate every day.
  • The parks started reopening on 18 August. The Tingüi (Ukrainian houses), Tanguá (artificial waterfall), Jardim Botânico (art-nouveau greenhouse) and Bosque Alemão (João and Maria trail) parks are now reopened.
  • The Serra Verde Express train, which takes Morretes through Serra da Graciosa, is working.

Foz do Iguaçu: what’s open

  • In Foz do Iguaçu, Brazilian waterfalls, Itaipu and Marco das 3 Fronteiras are open. Parque das Aves reopened on September 1st.

  • The Friendship Bridge, which connects Foz to Ciudad del Este in Paraguay, is expected to reopen in the coming days. There is still no forecast for the reopening of the border with Argentina.

Porto de Galinhas: raft trips resumed

Fernando de Noronha: what’s open

  • Fernando de Noronha made a first reopening for tourism on September 1st, only for visitors who already had Covid-19.
  • On October 10, however, passengers with a negative PCR test for covid carried out the day before or on the day of travel may board. See all protocols in this post.

Angra dos Reis and Ilha Grande: what’s open

  • Angra dos Reis and Big Island reopened for tourism on August 15th.
  • Transport to Ilha Grande is being operated from Angra dos Reis and Mangaratiba. Transportation via Conceição do Jacareí has ​​not yet returned.

Buzios: what’s open

  • Búzios reopened to tourists on August 1st. To pass the entry barrier, you must present the QR code of a confirmed reservation.
  • Day tourists are not allowed.
  • Since September 9, the beaches are free for sunbathing from Monday to Friday. On Saturday and Sunday physical activities are allowed in the sand and at sea and stay in kiosks outside the sand (on beaches like Ferradura, Geribá, João Fernandes and Azeda).

Arraial do Cabo and Cabo Frio: what’s open

  • Arraial do Cabo and Cabo Frio are reopened for tourism. To enter cities, you must show proof of accommodation reservation. In Cabo Frio, vacation rentals are still prohibited.
  • In Arraial do Cabo, Praia Grande, Prainha and Praia dos Anjos have unrestricted access. Praia do Forno had its access by trail released at the end of September, with a maximum limit of 395 visitors per day.
