“We believe we achieve between 40% and 50% of the activity that we realize, usually, according to our first estimates,” which are based on the French and foreign tourists, has announced Corinne Menegaux, director general of the Office of tourism and congress of Paris, at a press briefing.
It recognises that it is difficult to develop reliable estimates : “We don’t have a crystal ball, especially as’there is a lot about the ‘last minute’“, she says. “When there is a good news” in health terms or in case of reopening of borders, “people spend mode reservation, there can be good surprises for this summer“, she added.
It is still the case that very heavy losses have been announced for the year 2020, reports Ouest-France. On the whole French territory, the losses could reach nearly 40 to 45 billion euros in terms of tourism receipts, “on a total of 170 billion euros annually,” said Caroline Leboucher, director general of Atout France, the agency that promotes tourism hexagonal abroad.
The leading european destinations, therefore has to confront a drastic decline in its tourism sector, which represents not less than 7% of French GDP. In spite of everything, “the prospects are rather positivepeople have wanted to re-travel. Even if the local tourism industry is preferred, Paris and France remained the major destinations,” explains the director.
