The SNCF although limited, in its offer, with the 3rd confinement in France, will set out to conquer Spain.
It is through its low cost offer, namely Ouigo Spain, whata SNCF will land on the Spanish rails, from May 10, 2021. Thus, thanks to five daily return trips, the Ouigo TGVs will crisscross the Madrid-Zaragoza-Tarragona-Barcelona line.
Allocated in November 20219, the running rights in Spain will be used by SNCF in the coming days.
“The all-inclusive amount of Ouigo Spain’s investments is over 600 million euros.
We resorted to borrowing, so we were partly financed by the market. So the investment is half that for SNCF,“explained Hélène Valenzuela, general manager of Ouigo Spain. at our colleagues from Ville Rail & Transports.
If the offer is 50% lower than the prices charged by RENFE, the local operator, the latter will very quickly launch a competing offer. Renfe will arrive on June 23 with its low cost train, the Avlo, inspired by Ouigo.
Just like in France, the Ouigo trains are intended to be low cost, yet the SNCF has decided to innovate, by offering “XL seats, or access to an entertainment platform with films, reports, games, etc.“detailed Hélène Valenzuela.
