Campers should not inflate a camping mat directly with their mouths. It is better to use a pump bag, the experts of the magazine “Alpin” (issue 7/2029) advise. The reason: With the mouth-to-mat variant, moisture gets inside – and this can eventually lead to mold.
Many manufacturers supply a so-called pump bag together with the sleeping pad. But it is also available as an accessory in the trade.
Which mat protects best against cold?
And how well does the mat protect against the cold in the floor? The degree of isolation is specified with the R value. The higher this value, the better the insulation. However, the R value should be based on the uniform ASTM F 3340 standard, according to the “Alpin”. Only then can different R values be compared with each other.
