Where to go to All Saints’ Day with the family in France? This is the question we are asking ourselves in this season, especially this year when the best foreign destinations are taking action to fight against Covid19. So, let’s focus on family vacations in France for this fall, without any risk of being disappointed!
So I present to you fall destinations in France for a superb family holiday in La Toussant!
All Saints’ Day in France for enjoy the joys of the sun and the
Fall is good
more pleasant than spring in the Mediterranean: it is
often still possible to bathe, the sea cooling
slowly ! So here are our Mediterranean ideas for your
All Saints holidays.
For lovers of short hikes, these creeks offer magnificent views of the azure blue of the sea. Some are easier to access than others (and therefore more frequented), but make it easier to swim).
Located between Marseille and Cassis, these creeks will allow you to discover several small hikes are accessible in family, to discover Port-Miou, Sugiton, En-Vau or Port Pin, alternate with a few breaks on the beaches
2 – Corsica
ideal in the fall, if you stay on the coast, at least in
road trip! The Corsican mountains, quite high, can quickly
cool and become complicated if you sleep in your vehicle.
But Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio are great destinations to discover with your children! I have been there many times as a child and teenager, and I would like to take a little family road trip there, and fall is certainly less busy than summer!
Take the winding roads to then descend to small dreamy beaches, I would love to visit this fall, if Mr. Papa had a few days off!
3 – The Camargue
Crossing the salt marshes, the ponds with all the magnificent fauna, and going to the ornithological park, this is what makes my child dream! A short tour beforehand to Aigues-Mortes to visit a medieval town, once by the sea, then a good meal and a night at Sainte-Marie de la Mer to complete the stay!
4 – Cap d´Agde
Tested for a weekend at the end of September, we had a great time with the family enjoying other visits off the beaten track in the fall … a museum on Roman remains, the old town of Agde, book an outing at sea… In short, all the ingredients for a top-notch fall family vacation!
Our tested and approved address: Thalacap, a modern residence with swimming pool, ideally located between the beaches and the port!
5 – The Basque Country
A popular destination on the forum, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to swim in the ocean on All Saints’ Day! On the other hand, I can confirm to you that it is a very rich holiday destination to discover … The little Rhune train will always be a must to discover on a day of great weather for the view, Biarritz and its aquarium will be ideal for the day of rain, etc.
6 – Brittany
Ditto, I would not have thought of putting Brittany as an autumn destination because of the weather that seems more than uncertain to me during this season … But many of you mentioned it! Here, also the different aquariums can always welcome you in bad weather and pretty hikes exist on thenear Armor (I recommend the one on the pink granite coast at….) And for lovers of turquoise waters, a crossing (to book) to the glénant islands will be essential!
My favorite and recommended accommodation: Perros Guirrec and the port of Ploumanach. We were in a motorhome and had slept in the Tourony campsite. But for the hotel, I had spotted the hotel des Rochers, overlooking the port! Magnificent!
family fall pto take advantage ofa summer
indienot to the colors of canada
7 – The Hautes-Alpes
This period and
up to 1er November in general is our season
favorite for hiking. Here are the larches, conifers
which lose their thorns which change color offering us a
incredible show …
I might recommend that you stay near Guillestre, to be less high in altitude and to avoid the first cold or frost. From there, you can discover the petrifying fountain, go for a walk on the Crévoux fairy trail, walk in the Queyras, and if the weather is very nice, lie down on the beaches of Lake Eyglier …
8 – Jura
After being won over this summer during our road trip in the Jura with the kids, I think this is a really great place to discover in the fall. The mountains are not too high, so the temperatures are a bit warmer. And there are many activities there, fruit farm visit, hikes, pipe museums, toys …
Imagine this walk on the Eagle’s Peak with these turquoise waters surrounded by autumnal colors, it must be just superb!
Our tested and approved accommodation:
9- The southern Vosges
We also discovered this summer, I particularly enjoyed the region of 1000 ponds, a kind of little Finland. And since most of these lakes are private and therefore forbidden to swim, you will be less frustrated than us this summer!
Pretty walks, without too much difference in height, and therefore easy with children, with pretty landscapes, allow you to appreciate the landscapes. We had traveled the one around the Sea. But the Challots route, recommended by Anne-France on her article on Fougerolles must be very nice too.
Go to the countryside for fall family vacation
10 – Berry and the south of the Loire Castles
A region, discovered in the spring, but which can be useful in the fall, to visit the castles in case of rain! With the Brenne park, to enjoy watching animals warming up in the autumn sun, or by walking with a donkey, you will have plenty to do in this little-known region and yet not far from the Paris region!
Favorite accommodation: Domaine de la Crapaudine, a pretty guest room with a huge garden to let the children let off steam!
11- Eastern France: Moselle and Lorraine
We only have
crossed this often unknown region, but it has
pleasantly surprised. If your children are studying the 2nd wars
worldwide, we have identified many sites to visit. Alas,
without reservation, we missed these visits: the sites of
the Maginot Line had caught our attention.
But we already have
saw the bunkers, battlefields at Spicheren on the border
Franco-German. And the Vosges du Nord natural park owes it
also full of little treasures … Do not hesitate to share your
ideas in comment.
12 – Le Lubéron – All Saints holidays in France with the family
A magnificent region with the apotheosis of Colorado Provencal from Rustrel, small, but amazing! Our 2-day visit to the Lubéron allowed us to discover the small hilltop villages with our favorite for Opede le Vieux. A nice walk around L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue to discover its mills and of course the famous Lubéron hole: the fountain of Vaucluse.
Our aparthotel tested and approved: The Provence Country Club at ISle sur Sorgues, very well located for exploring the region and swimming after family visits
14 – The Alpes de Hautes Provence
Little known, these Alpilles are perfect in the fall. It is also in this region that you can discover the Verdon gorges, but more for hiking than for swimming. Also, don’t hesitate to check out the fossils – Ammonite slab– in Digne, and for those passionate about extraordinary adventures, the Alexandra David Neel house, First woman to enter Tibet in the 1910s.
Small city tour in the fall – All Saints holidays in France with the family
If the weather is
gloomy, falling back on cities is preferable by browsing
museums and other indoor activities. Yes, I know, with the
Covid we try to avoid, but museums take a lot of
precautions to keep us safe!
15 – Carcassonne
The discovery of
this summer: a short day to discover the city
medieval and its castle! It’s really a nice stopover
for a short weekend. Article in progress.
16 – Bozouls and Aveyron / Lozère
Another idea for a family All Saints holiday in France, to visit the pretty hilltop villages of L’Aveyron, along and why not go to Lozère, which I know a little better, the neighboring department
17 – Fontainebleau
A town with a well-known castle and a forest ideal for warm autumn walks, with a sea of sand! 9a arouses curiosity, doesn’t it?
Road-trip by van
/ 4 × 4 or motorhome for All Saints’ Day with the family
autumn is the most complicated season to go and sleep
in his vehicle, whether it’s a van, motorhome and even worse a
4 × 4 … Indeed, the days are very short and it is difficult
keep the children occupied in a small, enclosed area.
I recommend you therefore to go to the south of France instead, to take advantage of the mild temperature allowing you to stay outdoors as long as possible despite the night!
Weekend in a
amusement or leisure park
An other idea
maybe to go enjoy an amusement park, I was
pleasantly surprised by the few people at the Parc du Petit Prince in
Alsace. So under the conditions a month from now, here is a
- 18 – The Futuroscope, near Poitiers: the one that really won over the whole family (because not a fan of too big attractions)
- 19 – The Little Prince Park in Alsace: ideal from 5/6 years (120cm) up to 12/13 years old. This is the only park where we tested all the big attractions (not too impressive!) – Article to come
- 20 – Walibi in ARA: discovered in Wallonia, but I knew the one near Lyon
- 21 – Disneyland Paris : the mastodon therefore to see according to the reception conditions!
There you have it, I hope this article will make you want to find new destinations for an autumn holiday for All Saints’ Day in France with your family … Give us your wishes in the comments!
