How did you prepare for this winter trip to Florida with your son?
As we plotted and organized our trip ourselves, we had the time to soak up this destination. Our son being particularly fond of animals, we explained to him that he was going to have the chance to meet a lot of them there! We prepared him to do long hours on the plane because he had already taken it, but on shorter trips.
What means of transport did you use?
For the outward journey, we took a direct flight from CDG to Miami via Air France.
For the return trip, We took a Delta Orlando-> Atlanta flight, then Atlanta-> Paris, still on Delta Airlines.

Everything to prepare your trip to the United States
What to eat in Florida with the family?
As for the culinary part, I will teach us nothing about the USA…. !!TO Miami we found some good, rather healthy things and great breakfasts ($ 70 voucher at 3 for 3 squeezed fruit juices, an omelet and a kid’s pancake in the Wynwood district… ouch!)But if not, mostly we offer you burgers or pizza just about anywhere, which hurts the line but good for the wallet (10 nuggets for $ 1.49 at Burger King for example!) So obviously, it is not too disturbing for the children who have a great time !We also had a few picnics buying snacks from WallMart.
What was the weather like during your trip to Florida in February? What kind of clothes should I bring for this trip?
We are left in February so the weather was perfect. Great sun at Miami and the Keys, 20 to 25 degrees on average. On the other hand we let ourselves be surprised in Tampa where the greyness joined us with a small 15 degrees and a lot of wind!
Plan absolutely vests or jackets because the air conditioning blows thoroughly in restaurants and mall of all kinds!Ditto if you plan to go to Everglades, cover up and brush yourself with mosquito repellent. Finally, don’t forget the caps, sunglasses and sunscreen!

Did you use travel accessories or special equipment for the youngest? (stroller, carrying backpack, others …)
Our son works quite well so at 4 years old no need for a stroller. However we preferred to take our own car seat than renting one with our car.We were sure of its quality and Air France and Delta Airlines allow you to take them for free when you have a child ticket.

What is your best memory of this family trip?
I would say the animals we mets! The crocodiles roaming everywhere! The raccoons, the flamingos that we fed, the diving with the manatees.
What to do in Florida with a child?
I recommend you to get lost in Rainbow Springs Park because the beauty of these waters is worth every detour in the world! Also to try theexperience of swimming with manatees, I believe this is one of the only places on Earth where this is possible.
What did you dislike (visit, way of travel, atmosphere …) and that it is better to avoid?
We were really not thrilled with the city of Tampa. It is insecure and not really pretty.
Did you have some “galleys” and if so which ones?
Everything went like clockwork!
Do you have any tips for fellow travelers on family travel to Florida?
If your kids are explorer seeds, love nature, animals, and don an astronaut costume for a day, GO FOR IT! The US is a global warm welcome to children and Florida is no exception! And if you are looking for a little sun to escape the grayness of your country, remember Florida is also called The Sunshine State
What budget for a family trip to Florida?
I would say that in total we must have had some for 4000 € for three, by buying tickets early during an Air France promo (in August for a February departure).
- Accommodation: AirBnbs offer top accommodation at lower costs.
- For food, you can find things that are not too expensive by searching a little.
- On the other hand, park entrances of all kinds remain expensive! ($ 370 for the 3 of us for a Universal park, € 280 for the diving trip with the Manatees, $ 160 to return to the Kennedy Space Center for example).
