Lobitos, Peru – Paradise for surfers

Lobitos is a village in one of six districts of the province Talara in Peru. A yearly average temperature is 25 °C (77 °F).
You can get there through the Cap.FAP Victor Montes Arias Airport in Talara and then you can take a car heading north. It will take about half and hour to get there.


  • What to do

Lobitos has world class wave quality and nice surf spots, that’s why surfers like this place. If you are not into surfing, then you can go swim, fishing, explore the place around. Or go to Pepe’s Surf school to learn how to surf. Because frankly, there is not much to do if you are not going to break some waves. No nightclubs, no shopping, just long quite beaches, sun and sand. But you always can sneak off to Mancora for some action and people.

Locals speaks English and Spanish, they are very friendly.

You can rent or buy surf board in the Waves Surf Shop. It also sells wax, fins, leashes and stuff. For souvenirs you can buy purses, bags, and laptop cases made by local women from upcycled plastic bags.


  • Food

There are few restaurants: La Luna Llena Cafe – nice place to relax and recharge. Try fish tacos and Sangria. Other interesting places with nice seafood and yummy ceviche are El Tranqui and “Del Carajo! Restaurant Pollería”. But you can also take meals in hotels.

  • Where to stay

La Casona de Lobitos – beautiful rooms, great service, yoga classes, surf lessons and restaurant.
Lobitos Lodge – good hotel with great ocean view and nice beach.
Aitama Hotel and Restaurante – great choice if you want to stay in comfortable bungalow on the beach.
